 NOTICE TO ALL POLICE OFFICER APPLICANTS

 

Police Officer Employment Process

 

The Norcross Police Department is a progressive municipal law enforcement agency, which has established guidelines for the hiring process of civilian and sworn personnel.

 

The employment process for Sworn Police Personnel is as follows:

 

1.            Application – A City of Norcross Application For Employment must be submitted to the

   Norcross Police Department before any applicant can proceed in the employment process.

 

2.            Written Testing – The Norcross Police Department conducts entry level/basic knowledge

Testing for sworn positions. Testing is conducted based on the number of openings and the needs of the department. All applicants will be notified of the testing date at least two (2) weeks prior to the scheduled date. A test result of 80 or above is required to continue in the employment process.

 

3.            Background Information Packet – All applicants attending the testing will be provided with a Background Information Packet, which must be completed and returned to Ms. Leisa Grace within 14 days of the testing.

 

4.            Oral Board – Applicants scoring 80 or higher on the written examination will be notified of the date and time of the oral board. The oral board consists of a panel of five (5) Norcross Police Department employees, who will evaluate the applicant’s responses to pre-selected questions and law enforcement related scenarios. The applicant will also be given a written exercise. The oral board assessors will either recommend or not recommend the applicant for employment.

 

5.            Chief’s Interview – Applicants recommended by the oral board will be scheduled to meet with the Chief of Police for an interview. The Chief of Police will, based on the testing results, oral board recommendations, and the Chief’s interview, determine if the applicant will proceed to the background stage of the process.

 

   6.            Background Investigation – An extensive background investigation will be conducted on every applicant recommended by the Chief of Police. Based upon  the background investigation results, the investigator will either recommend or not recommend the applicant for employment.

 

 7.            Conditional Employment Offer – Based on the satisfactory results of the previous elements, the Chief of Police may present a conditional employment offer to an applicant. The conditional employment offer is dependent on the applicant’s successful passing of the remaining hiring process elements.

 

8.            Physical AssessmentThe applicant is given a comprehensive medical screening, including a drug test.

 

9.            Psychological Testing and Evaluation – The applicant is required to complete and pass an extensive psychological assessment.

 

10.       Polygraph Examination – The applicant must pass a pre-employment polygraph examination.

 

11.       Offer of Employment – Upon successful completion of all hiring process elements, the Chief of Police will review the applicant’s file to determine employment status of the applicant.

 

Employment Process Time Frame

 

The approximate time frame of the employment process is: 60 to 90 days. This time frame is dependent on the scheduling of tests and assessments and the applicant’s availability.

 

Reapplication Period

 

An applicant, who failed to successfully complete any part of the employment process, may reapply for employment after six (6) months.
